Future Health Africa
Future Health Africa (FHA) is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) whose overarching purpose is ‘Sharing skills, Transforming lives’ Our volunteers have been working in Kenya since 2009. FHA strives for sustainable gain in the health & well-being of people in low-middle-income countries through the following workstreams: · the Trauma Team tackles disability & poverty through surgical operations and training in trauma surgery, anaesthesia and rehabilitation · GRASPIT teaches essential recognition, management and initial treatment of sick patients to prevent their deterioration · q4a (quality for all) delivers the SPRINGBOARD program in QI methods & leadership to empower frontline health staff to improve their own systems, safety & quality of care · Community work improves primary & maternity care · TeamTalk empowers children in remote rural areas, especially girls, to improve their life chances using a sports and mentorship programme · A storytelling and theatre arts workstream is in development, to increase positive messaging around health and education Our work is undertaken by NHS volunteers from SW England. We currently have no paid staff.We deliver our projects through partnerships, using the Principles of Partnership described by the Tropical Health and Education Trust (THET) as our guide. Our volunteers have been involved in the establishment of, or actively participate in, other Global Health initiatives including the University of Plymouth Global Health Collaborative, the Global Health Masters' programme (University of Plymouth) and THET.
